The dates for the 2018 Avon Descent have now been released. Last year our paddle dog, Robert McIntyre took the plunge and paddled the 124km race. Rob was fortunate enough to do his first Avon with the help of Spirit Paddle Sports. This is Australia’s most famous river marathon and definitely worth trying if you get the opportunity. The race will be running on the 4th and 5th of August 2018. For more details click here: https://www.avondescent.com.au/

This Sunday, the 25th of March will be the forth edition of the Eildon to Alexandra river race. It is a two-stage, river marathon type event that can be paddled by any craft by people of limited experience, all the way to expert level experience. The main feature is the class 2 ‘Blue Gums’ rapid that is only 3 kilometres into the first leg where Australian Wildwater and Slalom events have been held in the past. The event is a great gathering of people from all different types of paddle disciplines. In previous years we have had competitors from Wildwater, Marathon, Creek boating and Slalom. This year, we are excited to be showing our good friends and club mates from Avoca the fun-filled event for the first time. Harry and Fletcher Armstrong have caught a taste of the Goulburn River, having competed in the Australian Wildwater championships in January this year. Byron Chadwick will also be experiencing the river racing for the first time. For the most, people will race the event in river racing kayaks that resemble the look of a flatwater kayak. Most have modified versions that have retractable rudders that are often necessary for these types of races, however, given that the river level is expected to be nice and high (9,000 megalitres approx), we should be able to stick to our fixed rudder system. The first leg is 14km, followed by a lunch break before heading into the final 19km stage. It is a great day out and should be a good fun slog!
